Getting Ready to Return to Preschool — Tips for a Smooth Transition

August 1, 2025

Summer break is winding down, and soon it will be time for your little one to return to preschool! At Empowered Early Learning Academy, we understand that returning to school can be both exciting and a little bit nerve-wracking for children and families alike. To help make the transition as smooth and joyful as possible, here are some gentle tips to prepare your preschooler for coming back to class:

1. Talk About Preschool Positively:
Share stories about fun activities, friends, and teachers your child will see again. Focusing on the exciting parts helps build anticipation and comfort.

2. Establish a Routine Early:
Start adjusting bedtimes and wake-up times a week or two before school starts. A consistent routine helps little bodies and minds feel ready for the school day.

3. Visit the Classroom or School:
If possible, take your child for a quick visit to their classroom or the playground. Familiar surroundings help ease first-day jitters.

4. Practice Self-Care Skills:
Encourage your child to practice skills like washing hands, putting on shoes, and using the restroom independently. Feeling confident in these helps kids feel proud and ready.

5. Pack Together:
Let your child help pack their backpack or lunchbox. Choosing a favorite snack or a comfort item (like a small toy or blanket, if allowed) can provide reassurance.

6. Listen and Support:
It’s normal for children to have questions or worries. Listen patiently and offer plenty of hugs and encouragement. Your calm confidence is their greatest comfort.

At Empowered Early Learning Academy, we’re here to partner with you and your child every step of the way. We can’t wait to welcome our preschoolers back for another amazing year of learning, playing, and growing together!
