Starting preschool is a big milestone for your child — and for you! At Empowered Early Learning Academy, we understand that saying goodbye on the first day can bring a swirl of emotions for parents. You might feel proud, nervous, excited, or even a little teary — and that’s completely normal.

Here are a few gentle tips to help ease those first-day goodbyes and make the transition smoother for both of you:

1. It’s Okay to Feel Emotional

Leaving your little one at preschool for the first time is a big step. Whether it’s your first child or your fourth, it’s natural to feel a mix of pride, excitement, and worry. Give yourself permission to feel all the feelings — you’re not alone!

2. Talk About What to Expect

Before the big day, share what your child will experience at preschool. Keep it positive and simple:
"You’ll get to play with toys, make new friends, listen to stories, and your teacher will take care of you until I come back to pick you up."

3. Keep Goodbyes Short and Sweet

Lingering can make goodbyes harder for both you and your child. When it’s time to say goodbye, offer a loving hug, a confident smile, and let them know when you’ll be back:
"I love you! I’ll see you after snack time."

A short, cheerful goodbye builds trust and shows your child you believe they’re in good hands.

4. Trust the Process — It Gets Easier

It’s normal for children (and parents) to need a little time to adjust. Even if there are a few tears at first, most children settle quickly once they engage in activities and connect with their teacher. Our EELA team is trained to comfort, engage, and support your little one every step of the way.

5. Celebrate Their Bravery (and Yours!)

After pick-up, celebrate your child’s big day. Ask them about their favorite part, what they played with, or a new friend they met. And don’t forget to pat yourself on the back — letting go a little is an act of love and growth for both of you.
